Mixed earthenware corset vase

The contrast between the raw material and the metallic details gives it a powerful, almost sensual presence: a blend of strength and fragility, couture and ceramics.

The mixed clays create a mineral marbling in shades of grey, brown and terracotta, evoking a fabric worn by time. The irregular rim of the vase accentuates this organic and imperfect aspect, deliberately wabi-sabi.

Description

The contrast between the raw material and the metallic details gives it a powerful, almost sensual presence: a blend of strength and fragility, couture and ceramics.

The mixed clays create a mineral marbling in shades of grey, brown and terracotta, evoking a fabric worn by time. The irregular rim of the vase accentuates this organic and imperfect aspect, deliberately wabi-sabi.

Every detail – stitching, button, roughness – tells a story and makes this piece absolutely unique.

Characteristics

  • Material: mixed earthenware, engobes and partial glaze
  • Shape: irregular cylinder reminiscent of a corset
  • Decor: vertical line with raised stud buttons
  • Colours: grey, brown, terracotta, touches of green/blue, satin patina
  • Dimensions: H 28 cm x Ø 16 cm at the base x Ø 12 cm opening
  • Use: vase for fresh/dried flowers, plant pot or sculptural object

Symbolism

This piece plays with the codes of clothing: the corset, a symbol of constraint but also of beauty, is reinterpreted in clay. The stud buttons become poetic details that transform the ceramic into an object of memory and strength.

Height: 28 cm Inspiration & production

Each vase is designed in my studio in Grenoble, France. I draw inspiration from the raw textures of nature and Andean landscapes to create organic and timeless pieces. Small irregularities in shape and colour are part of the wabi-sabi philosophy: they highlight the beauty of imperfection and the artisanal nature of the piece.
